You are Worthy!

7

Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with two separate thinking patterns erupting in my brain. It was as if an angel was sitting on my right shoulder and a little devil was sitting on my left shoulder. The little devil was compelling my thoughts towards all the crazy mistakes I have made over the years. You know, the mistakes that one hopes to God no one ever finds out; the mistakes that paralyze our hearts with shame, guilt, and fear. But, in the other ear, all I could hear is “You are worthy.”

Since starting this blog, I have been on the look out for the Devil because anytime we Christians ever set out to do something great for the Lord; it is only a matter of time before evil shows up to try and take us down. Well, last night it showed up in the form of ungodly guilt and shame. Satan knows that we struggle with forgiving ourselves for our past sins and he takes pleasure in rubbing them in our faces. Love (and God is love) covers a multitude of sins, while hate finds joy in other people’s shortcomings.

It is our spiritual enemy’s worst nightmare when we begin operating in our God-given callings because these three things happen:

1.  We begin to change from the inside out because we are operating in our earthly purpose.  Due to our content hearts, sin begins to lose its appeal and once this happens our natural inclination towards sin loses it grip on our lives.

2.  We begin to organically draw closer to the Lord because we are sinning less.  When we are sinning intentionally, it is our inclination to run and hide from the presence of God.  Many off-base preachers teach that God hides from us when we are living in sin, but in actuality, we hide from God.

3.  Since we are drawing closer to God, our hearts naturally begin to overflow with love, joy, peace, selflessness, righteousness, and courage.  We no longer have to try to be happy; we just are and people sense this and want what we have.  The Spirit of God within becomes contagious and winning people to Christ is as easy as going to the grocery store.

So, one can see why Satan would pull out all the stops to keep us from pursuing our God-given purposes! His goal is to get your eyes off Christ because the truth of the matter is that we are not worthy without accepting the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. It is through His blood that was spilled for us that we are made worthy.

Last night, I believe Satan was saying to me, “Jory, if people only knew what a sinner you have been, they would never read your hypocritical blog!” Yet, the Lord is so faithful and His spirit that lives within me spoke up and advocated on my behalf saying, “I am worthy because my sin is covered by the blood of Jesus Christ!” I have tears in my eyes right now thinking about how amazing the love of God is. Our sins from five minutes ago are washed clean and we are new creatures in Jesus Christ. All we have to do is accept Him as our Lord and Savior and He is faithful to do the rest!
