Will You Help Us Foster JOY This Season?

Dear family and friends,

This Christmas God has blessed Luke and I with two new house-guests; a very young mother and her two-month-old baby boy have moved in with us!

With the mother’s permission, I will share their names, updates with pictures, and some small details of their story. Can you believe that their names are Joy and Gabriel? It’s as if God has sent Luke and me an angel with a message of JOY!

If I am being honest, 2019 was a painful year for me as I healed from a ten-year dependency on opioid prescription pills for chronic daily migraines. Experts say that it takes the brain one to two years to recover back to “normal.”

What this means is that my brain has been extremely low on the “feel good” chemicals in the brain needed to function properly, such as dopamine and serotonin. Therefore, I have struggled with severe anxiety & depression this past year and suddenly, God sent me Joy and her sweet baby-angel, Gabriel to help raise and grow in Christ-centered maturity and societal success.

Luke and I are beyond thrilled to take on these two to love and care for as if they were our own. By the way, it is so fun watching Luke nurture and love on both Joy and Gabriel. He stays up into the wee hours of the night feeding and cradling a crying (but, oh so sweet) baby until he falls back asleep. I often care for Gabriel in the early morning time and sometimes we fall back asleep snuggling together.

And Joy – oh my goodness do we adore her!

I was actually Joy’s children’s pastor for two years about six years ago when Luke and I lived and worked in Virginia Beach, VA. She was actually a young teen then who volunteered her time every single Sunday to help Luke and me run the children’s ministry, “Big City Studios.”

We grew quite attached to Joy back then and so it is our pleasure to take her in and love and care for her as if she were our own!

So far we have raised a little over $900 to support Joy and her child, but that has already been put towards getting Joy and Gabriel safely from South Carolina to Pittsburgh, PA, as well as all of the things a baby and young woman immediately need such as a car seat, stroller, formula, warm clothes, socks, shoes, coats, and so on.

Joy & Gabriel came with almost nothing and no support from family or friends, so we have to buy everything needed to support this very young woman and her very young baby.

This is where you come in, we need your support.

Joy has come to us as an at-risk young woman, who has suffered unspeakable abuse and this is not going to be an easy adventure. Even so, Joy is committed to self-care, being primarily responsible for her child, getting her G.E.D. and pursing college and a career. So far, I can honestly say that Joy has maintained a teachable spirit under our care and it’s been an honor helping to guide her; and yet, we know that this new journey will be filled with ups and downs.

We need people who will pray for us, encourage us, and help us financially provide for these two very precious gifts from God. WE WANT YOU TO BE PART OF THIS MINISTRY TO WOMEN AND CHILDREN. If you would like to go on this exciting adventure with us, there are two ways you can give.

You can either donate any amount here: DONATE…OR you can send Joy and Gabriel a gift from the online baby registry she created at Target’s Online Store HERE.

Luke, Joy, Gabriel and I thank every one of you who have or will give in some way. We promise you that we will give every cent raised to these two and much of our own resources on top of that. We will also seek all social services available (but that takes a little time).

We love you all! Thank you again, from the bottom of my heart!

We hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year!!!

Sincerely,
Jory, Luke, Joy, Gabriel and “Princess Noella” (our 6-year-old-pup, who is also adjusting quite well) 😉
